“Our mindset has become one where we make the top performer the captain. But when that player goes through a rough patch, we discard them like they’re insignificant.
We’ve become used to seeing Babar Azam score centuries and fifties, and even when he has a ‘bad’ day, he still scores around 30-35 runs, while others struggle to get close to that. Why are expectations so high for Babar that he must score a hundred in every match just to stay on the team?
Every great cricketer, including Zaheer Abbas, has had tough times. During such moments, we need to stand by them and encourage them.
Why is the bar set so high for Babar that only centuries guarantee his place? You can’t build a team without your star players, like Majid Khan, Imran Khan, or Javed Miandad.
Personally, I think Babar has done a great job as captain, achieved a top position, and been the number one player in the world.
He has fans not just in Pakistan, but also in India and England. He needed support. Even if he was removed from captaincy, he should have still been played. To say he doesn’t deserve a place as a player is simply unfair.”
